This course provides theory and clinical experiences needed for the proper collection of blood and other specimens used for diagnostic testing. Students are prepared to safely perform procedures necessary for specimen collections on patients in various health care settings Emphasis is placed on ethics, legalities, medical terminology, safety and universal precautions, health care delivery systems, patient relations, anatomy and physiology, and specimen collections. Students are eligible take the NHA national certification exam for phlebotomy technicians.

Pre-Requisites

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • Must be 18 years old to enroll
  • Certain Immunizations will be recommended

Phlebotomy Technician Course

  • The Phlebotomy Training Program provides students with the skills and knowledge to collect blood specimens safely and effectively for laboratory testing and patient care. This program is designed for individuals seeking to enter the healthcare field as phlebotomists in hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.

    Program Overview

    • Length: Typically 120–180 hours (combination of classroom instruction and clinical practice)

    • Approval: College or training institution program in alignment with state and national standards

    • Purpose: Prepares students to perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen processing while maintaining patient safety and comfort

    Requirements

    • Must complete an NC-approved Phlebotomy Training Program (classroom + clinical hours)

    • Demonstrate proficiency in blood collection techniques

    • Successfully pass a national certification examination (e.g., NHA, ASCP, AMCA, NCCT, or similar)

    Fees

    • Program Tuition$480.00

      • Covers course instruction, lab practice, and clinical hours

    • Application Fee$125.00

      • Includes registration and study materials

    • Examination Fee – Paid separately to the national certification body

    👉 Upon successful completion of training and passing the exam, students are eligible to become Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (CPT) and enter the healthcare workforce.
