Nurse Aide Refresher Course
The Nurse Aide Refresher Course is designed for individuals who have previously completed a Nurse Aide I program or have been listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry, but need to update their knowledge and skills in order to return to the workforce or re-qualify for the competency exam.
Program Overview

Length: Typically 40 hours (varies by training provider; includes classroom review and hands-on lab practice)

Approval: NC Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) compliant

Purpose: Provides a refresher in essential nurse aide duties including personal care, infection control, patient safety, vital signs, and basic nursing skills
Requirements

Proof of previous completion of a Nurse Aide I program or prior listing on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry

Current or expired Nurse Aide I certification (within the last 2 years, depending on state guidelines)

Completion of the refresher course to qualify for the NNAAP Nurse Aide Competency Examination

👉 Successful completion of the refresher course prepares students to take the Nurse Aide I Competency Exam and regain active status on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry, making them eligible for employment in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and home care agencies.
